BLISSFUL KISS CAPTURES J J'SDREAM, FIRST FILLY STAKES OF SEASON

Blissful Kiss, a Florida-bred daughter of Kissin Kris, established herself as the local leader of the 2-year-old filly division with her decisive victory in this afternoon's $100,000 J j'sdream Stakes at Calder Race Course. Ridden by jockey Andrew Ramgeet, Blissful Kiss sat just off the pace set by Little Miss Echo and assumed the lead turning for home in the 5 1/2 furlong race. She drew off to win by 6 3/4 lengths over the late-running Lacy Lady, who was a bit fractious loading into the starting gate. Little Miss Echo held on to finish third. Blissful Kiss covered the distance in 1:06.2.

Blissful Kiss is trained by leading trainer Bill White for owner-breeder John Franks. This was her second career start (she finished third in her debut on June 3) and she is eligible for this year's Florida Stallion Stakes, which begin next month (August 11).

Winning trainer's quotes:

Bill White - "Mr. (John) Franks thought she was one of his better 2-year-olds and would be good enough to be a (Florida) Stallion Stakes filly. That's why he sent her to me. She broke a step slow and got some dirt in her face in her first race (3rd), but she got some good experience. We scoped her and she bled a little bit so she got Lasix today, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the difference. She'll now be pointed for the Desert Vixen (1st leg at six furlongs on Aug. 11)."

Winning jockey's quotes:

Andrew Ramgeet - "The trainer (Bill White) called me yesterday saying that he needed a strong rider and I said I was available. When a top trainer like Bill White starts a maiden in a stake it must be something good. I accepted the ride because she has been working well and ran good the first time. He told me to try and get a good break and get her out for the first sixteenth and then put her on the bit and take it from there. I didn't expect her to win that easy. This was an easy trip for her. I saw the hole--I could have gotten squeezed--but I got the rail and took advantage of it."
